I Like You, Maude was created for those with a desire to share their true, personal stories onstage. Anyone can put their name in the hat for a chance to tell a five-minute tale, without notes or paper, on any topic. Newbies are welcome to brave the spotlight for the first time (it's a wonderful, warm audience - just right for cherry popping), while seasoned storytellers and comedians may find Maude to be a great home for workshopping new material.
And for having the plums to bare ones soul in front of a live audience, every storyteller wins a little sumthin' sumthin': a free tea/coffee drink courtesy of The Tea Lounge, a high quality photo and blurb of your story on Maude's FB page and, most importantly, a homemade cookie.
Each show also features a guest storyteller for the evening. These include writers, actors, comedians and staples in the New York City storytelling community. This month's guest is Rory Scholl of the famed BTK Band.
Come out to participate, or just watch the storytellers do their thing. Tea Lounge may be a coffee shop, but they have a full bar, y'all.
